Off the Edge Die-Cut Card Tutorial

Welcome!  Although the daffodils and hyacinths are in full bloom, snow showers relentlessly continue, making this a great day for card making!

Here's a fun card I made using the off the edge method with my Sweet Birthday Thin Cut.  If  you want to change up the basic rectangle for some of your cards, just follow the tutorial I've put together for you.  Select your papers and die(s) and let's get started!

When cutting, just place the die/paper/plate where you want to cut.  As you can see, I've placed a bit of washi tape on the die to hold in place.  A magnetic plate, or even the magnetic mat included with each set of Thin Cuts  also works great. Just make sure you have the paper and die positioned correctly so you don't ruin the magnetic mat.😉

By aligning the area I want to cut, with the pencil line and the edge of the plate, I am able to cut just half of the cupcake.  Using my paper trimmer, I then cut the excess away from my card, as indicated with the pencil lines shown in the above image.  This could also be done with your craft knife or scissors.

To add color to the front of our card, I lined Willow/White striped paper from the Adventure Fundamentals Collection with my white card base.  Using washi tape I temporarily adhered the cupcake die to this paper and ran it through my trusty  Sizzix Big Kick.  Any part of your die/paper that is not 'sandwiched' with plates when run through your cutting machine, will not cut.

Next, using Tombow adhesive, I adhered it to the front of my card, aligning it with the previously cut card base cupcake.  I love this vibrant paper!

Using the new Nutmeg ink, I stamped my cute cupcake, included in the Sweet Birthday bundle; then with New England Ivy ink, I stamped the number 4, sprinkles, "Hooray for You!" and "It's your birthday!"  These sentiments are part of the March Stamp of the Month, Birthday Time.   I also colored in the cute little cupcake with pencils, adding touches bling with my Clear Shimmer Brush and Liquid Glass.

For the inside of the card, I cut a strip of the vibrant and fun Adventure Fundamentals paper and adhered along the right edge.  By the way, all of the current Fundamentals Collections will be retiring July 31, and are available while supplies last.  These are super versatile and just spark the creative juices!  😉

To wrap it up, I cut White Daisy and Willow Cardstock pieces for the inside sentiment, Have a sweet birthday! stamped with New England Ivy.  They are adhered with Foam Dots to give the card a bit of dimension.  This sentiment is also part of the Sweet Birthday set.
